I cut each state's shape is cut out of its own license plate and then put back together to form a map of the USA.  My wife is using this one for a headboard in our guest bedroom.  I made one for my mother just to hang on her wall.  The end product is 50" x 30".  Hope you like it.  If you have questions, hit me with an e-mail.  Thanks for looking.  Grin

well, just in materials alone it cost about $300 to get the plates and the base to put it on.  And it took me about 8 days (4 weekends) to cut and smooth the plates into the shapes of the states, plus another day to assemble the whole thing (with the help of Mrs.KON).  It was my wife's idea to do this, she wanted a unique headboard for our travel inspired guest room.  Then my mom saw it and she "had to have one" for her house, so I made it for her for x-mas.

that is so cool! Cheesy If only we had different licence plates for each county here in the uk, i mean we do have differing ones, but it's the letters that define which county it's from. I'm gonna have to find a way to make something like this! Brilliant idea.....

You did a great job!  They sell one like that for $3000 (yes, three thousand) here http://www.uncommongoods.com/item/item.jsp?itemId=12856 and yours looks just as good, if not better.  I always see cool things like these at ridiculous prices and I know I can make them myself.  Of course, most of the time I buy the necessary material for my project and never even start but anyhow...on the rare ocassion I do complete a project it means so much more to me 'cause I put my effort into it and it sure looks like that one took a looooot of effort!  Very cool!
