Hi,

I'm finally going to Australia to see my sister! Not exactly looking forward to the 24 hour flight though so I was hoping to take something to occupy the time.

What can I take on the plane that won't get confiscated or me into trouble! I don't fancy jail in Abu Dhabi!  Tongue I've already got a clover yarn cutter but will I be ok with normal needles?

I've posted this in crochet too 'cause I'm not bothered what I do as long as it's something to take my mind off the flying!

TIA

This is a subject that comes up VERY frequently! The latest I've heard is: Flying TO Australia you're fine - but within Australia and leaving it, no needles. However, I would bet that you would be able to put a plastic or bamboo crochet hook in with some pens and pencils and have no problem whatsoever, since you don't mind which you do!

I travel between the US and Bangkok frequently and have had not a single comment or problem, even in Japan which is one of the worst places (i.e. cream cheese is a liquid, did you know that?!!!) to go through! I even accidentally had metal sock needles this last time (usually I'm a Denise or bamboo knitter) and not a comment at all. But Australia is apparently a different kettle of fish. So - crochet hook (plastic or wood) in with pens/pencils!!!! is my suggestion for at least the way back home to the US.
