Round 1 Gallery https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=250570.0

I reserve the right to deny any craftster's entrance into this swap for the following reasons...
ANY "negative" feedback comments
poor communication in past swaps
sending late in past swaps
Being a NEWBIE swapper (you must have successfully completed 1 swap prior to signing up for this one)

The idea of this swap is to craft for your partner 13 groups of items (91 items in total-it is highly encouraged that day 13 be candy or some type of baked good- Halloween related of course) based on their interests, going along with the idea of the 12 days of Xmas swap (thread for that swap: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=195682.0) You will label the packages with the numbers 13-1, so that your partner knows which days are in which packages. We will start opening the packages on October 19th with the #13 package. Inside would be 13 things. On October 20th you would open the #12 package and inside there should be 12 things. This will go on and on until on October 31st when you will open the #1 package.

Each day can have a "theme" if you want, but this is not mandatory. You could have day 5 be 5 glitter skulls, while day 6 could be a pair of earrings + a set of gift tags + a fabric headband + a tea towel + embossing powder and some handmade paper

This is a pretty big swap commitment so if you are not sure that you can fulfill the obligations please do not sign up. This swap will end up taking a lot of time/money/resources, so please plan accordingly. Some participants from the 12 days of Xmas swap said they spent a large amount of $$ in shipping alone! Also, it is VERY IMPORTANT that the packages get sent ON TIME so please make sure that you can get to the post office.

Please note:  if you are sending food/accepting food, your package will look like this approximately:
handcrafted 60% = 55 items
store bought 25%= 23 items
food/candy/baked goods: 15% = 13 items (for day 13 most likely)
and, if not,  like this: 70% (64 items) handcrafted and 30% (27 items) store bought
If you buy an item from etsy.com, a craft fair, or any other handmade site that is handmade I consider it handmade and may go into the 75% handmade list. Store bought to me implies COMMERCIALLY manufactured, mass produced and/or supplies.

Someone mentioned specifying the sizes and numbers more- so here goes- (I basically just took this from the 12 Days of Christmas swap, it seems to cover everything- so let me know if I need to be more specific or whatnot.)

Here are some more rules- that specify just how much of a COMMITMENT this swap is!

Recommendations from your swap organizer:

1. I would recommend that your day 13 be candy or treats, days 12-7 be "small" items, days 6-4 be "medium" items and days 3-1 be "large" items. Less time intensive things should be made for the larger numbered days and more time intensive projects for the smaller numbered days.

Which breaks down into-
13 candy treats (if you are accepting treats- if not it will be 70 small items)
57 small items
15 medium items
6 large items

Craftster's guidelines for swaps are as follows:

By Time
-Big = 3 or more hours
-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Little = 2 or less hours

By Size
-Big = A shawl, a shirt, a skirt, a set of jewelry with four to five items, a purse
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks

By Price
-Big = $30 or more
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less

Shipping guidelines and info.

1. You must send ALL PM's to DragonFly4  and all PM's  must have the subject line: 13 Days of Halloween Swap with the words something along the lines of general question/sent/received...etc

2. You must post in the original thread at least once a week! This starts once partners are assigned. You must continue to post at least 1 time a week until October 31st.

3.PM's must be sent to DragonFly4 AND your partner when you send and receive.  If you are sending within the USA you must get a DC# and send it to DragonFly4 and your partner. They cost about an extra dollar in addition to the postage price. If you are sending outside of your country, you must keep your receipt as proof of shipping and send a picture of it to DragonFly4!!! This is mandatory!

5.When you open each days package, you will then need to post in your mini gallery. I ask that you post pictures within a reasonable amount of time. Please get them posted within 3 days of opening. All of your pictures will be posted in your mini gallery. Posting pictures is a requirement for this swap! Not posting pictures will be noted in your feedback and that can affect your ability to join this swap or other swaps in the future. It will be noted in your feedback  unless your mini gallery is filled with pictures of your 13 packages. Everyone will want to drool and covet what you get, so please share! If you don't have a digital camera and cannot get access to one, please ask your partner to take pictures before they send. (Partners may want to take pictures before they send just in case!)

6. There will be a halfway check in point and a one week to go check in point as well. I will send each of you a PM and you must reply back.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

Ooh, how exciting!  I'm already getting prepared for Halloween (well, just mentally prepared so far Wink), so it would certainly be ideal for me BUT I'll have to decide on whether I can handle the commitment for the summer - I'm glad there's a nice chunk of time for signing up!

And one other thing: I know in the discussion some people mentioned that maybe the sizes of the packages should be better defined as they are in the 12 Days of Christmas (as in "smalls" for the big numbers to "larges" for days 3,2,&1 - etc) since apparently there were some... discrepancies... in packages with last year's 13 Days!

So sad to see Craftster go!

*. If you are sending BAKED GOODS, please only send them if you live in the USA and your partner does too. I don't want anyone's package to go MIA with the lovely customs officials. Also, if you are sending baked goods, you may leave them out of your 1st send out package and include them  in the 2nd or send them in a completely separate package so they arrive in a timely manner and don't spoil or go stale. *I recommend shipping them in a completely seperate package!

*. I highly recommend that you wrap your items in a plastic bag/trash bag/ or some other protective wrapping INSIDE the box you are sending. There were a handful of swappers in last years round that received boxes from their swap partners that were WET due to the post office/ups/etc leaving them on the doorstep and a rain/snow came through AND some swappers have suggested that you also do this with anything you might send to a hot climate that might melt on your swap goodies. Wouldn't it suck to have worked so hard on a crocheted lap blanket just to send it with some delicious chocolate that melts all over it!! EEP! Sad

*. Also, if you will be shipping TO a partner that is in a HOT climate during the swap send outs, please do not include any thing that might melt on their swap goodies. Think about wrapping them in a plastic baggie or something similar.

*. Here is some info from the USPS on the Flat Rate Boxes: these can be use for Domestic and International but the rates differ for International shipments. And if you purchase your postage online at usps.com or by paypal, com you get a small discount on the postage price. The Flat Rate boxes themselves are FREE (you still have to pay for postage) from your local post office and also FREE if you get them online from the website usps.com, they will deliver them to you free of charge too!!

Flat Rate Boxes are available in multiple sizes and shapes to accommodate a variety of contents and shipping needs.

Both Flat Rate Boxes, the shirt box size (11" x 8.5" x 5.5") and the shoe box size (13.625" x 11.875" x 3.375"), can be used for domestic and international shipping.
Available to anywhere in the U.S. for $9.80
One rate to Canada and Mexico for $23.95
One rate to all other countries for $38.95
*20 pound maximum for international shipments

The Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Box, (12" x 12" x 5.5") is 50% larger than the original Flat Rate Boxes.
   Domestic $12.95
   APO/FPO $10.95
   Canada/Mexico $29.95
   Other countries $49.95

The contents of the flat rate box must be neatly contained inside the box with adhesive packaging tape.
The box must close securely and retain its shape when taped with adhesive.
The shape of the box may not be changed or enlarged to fit its contents.

Some swappers last year did say that they had sent HUGE boxes to their partner and used UPS and got some good prices on shipping.

Flat Rate Boxes can be ordered free of charge from the usps here: http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductCategoryDisplay?catalogId=10152&storeId=10001&categoryId=13359&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=11820&top_category=11820

And if you are curious about the other shipping prices for regular priority/1st class/international you can calculate postage here: http://www.usps.com/tools/calculatepostage/welcome.htm?from=home&page=0061calculatepostage

******. I highly recommend that each of you put together a WIST. A WIST is a huge help for your swap partner. They get to look through all the things you have put into it to get a feel for what you like. Visit WISTS.com for more info.******

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your packages and other details about participating in a swap.

I will think about this swap, it sounds fun. The concerns I have are 1.) I am vegan so most candy is out unless someone lives near a Whole Foods, buys me loads of Skittles or Mambas (both are vegan & my fave) or just buys me loads of Cliff or Luna bars! Also I like Halloween stuff that can be displayed year around, I don't go for cheesy pumpkins and the like. Is this demanding to much? :/

There's more to life than books you know
                But not much more

I dont think it is too hard for someone to buy 13 bags of skittles or any of the things you suggested as they are available at most mass grocery stores. As for the rest of the specifications, I dont think they are demanding too much, you VERY regularly see people specifying stuff like that in their swap questionaires. And who knows- maybe we will get someone that has the same preferences, and you guys will make perfect partners!
