;DK... She knows I'm making her a vest, but has absolutely no idea what it's going to look like! Here's a clue>>>>
She had a couple vests in her wists, and some other stuff, which didn't relate to the swap. She stated she liked the Victorian era, and the 50's. She really wanted something to wear. Upon further questioning, she revealed she's wearing earthy colors. So, I didn't want to dissappoint her with unusable junk. Dilemma... What to do???
So, I broused the thrift store, looking for something to trace a pattern from. I found 2 garments, neither of which were right, but I could get a start from thier lines.
The store gave me some newspaper and let me trace the items, so I didn't have to pay for unusable items. I had also just found some Med. Brown 100% cotton, distressed duck, in an uneven weave. Having used this fabric before, I knew it would prove to be an everyday piece of fabric. Once washed, the distressed texture and color improved, and with embellishments, it would be a perfect background fabric, that would act like denim, only in earthy colors.
Now to turn that into something wonderful....
I have a few books, the one used is posted in my ATC Post. It has vintage embroidery pattens for artists. So, that's where the vintage inspiration came in.
Selecting 2 designs, I blew them up to poster size, and selected pieces of the artwork, and created my own design. The pieces were appliqued, and some stenciling added another dimension. The buttons were salvaged from a garment I secured from a church clothing ministry 2o yrs. ago. I had taken an item I'd never wear just to get the buttons.( SHAME ON ME!) I knew they were perfect, just too small, So, I got the idea of the frog and loop design down the front. No piece of art is complete without a signature, so I decided to put my name inside, instead of forcing her to wear it around on the outside.
SO.. here it is: I'll let Anne get it first, before showing too much!

The Photo hosting is giving me trouble, this wasn't supposed to be a link... sorry!

I don't think I've ever been quite this excited for a swap before, and I'm always very excited about swaps.  I love those buttons.
