My DD's birthday is tomorrow, she's turning 2.  We're having a get-together, barbecue, etc, and in honor of her birthday, we're doing a ladybug theme (inasmuch as we're doing a theme, that is).

Here is the cake that GrammaBiskit made to go along with that theme:

It's a chocolate cake with chocolate filling and icing.  It was baked in a Pyrex bowl to acheive the correct shape.  The spots are Oreo cookies, and the antennae are candles.... cuz there's two!

Here's another view of the cake:

Also, as I'm never one to follow good advice (you know, advice like: If you've never done it before, don't do it the first time for a party!) I did two firsts.  I made rainbow cupcakes, and I did the Hello, Cupcake sunflower cupcakes.

Here's the rainbow part:

And here's a look at the damage of creating the sunflowers.  We're only expecting 20-30 people MAX, so I have no idea what possessed me to make so many cupcakes.

Not too bad for my first time doing any real piping, eh?

Here's hoping for a successful party!  C&C welcome and encouraged!

I love the ladybug cake. I didn't even realize at first that the spots were Oreos.  Cheesy   The cake has a chocolate filling? Is it like a cream filling? I've never had a cake with a filling before so it sounds really good right now. Everything looks great. I hope the party is a lot of fun!

This reminds me of a cake design I LOVED as a kid.  It was in the Betty Crocker Library of Recipe cards.

Your version is  far more "ladybuggish", but I LOVED this cake.

Check it out.

It looks like the chef might have enjoyed illegal substances...I'm just saying, look at those bugged out eyes!

The cake has a chocolate filling? Is it like a cream filling?

Well, filling might be the wrong term.

Basically she baked it, and then cut it in half to make two layers, and put a layer of frosting between the top and bottom halves.  So basically it's a two layer cake.  Sorry for the confusion!    Undecided

Check it out.

Heehee, I realize how nostalgic that is... but lord that's a frightening cake!   Cheesy

The candles as antennae are ingenious.

Isn't it though?  GrammaBiskit is so clever!
