A friend of mine goes to school in the states and brought a university friend back home with her for a week.  Her friend had seen the many trinkets I had made her and requested a penguin.  A blue one, to be specific.

I had a couple long car rides this week, and so I made her Doug.

I'm also in custody of the penguin I crocheted for my boyfriend some 3 years ago, because he's on a trip.  He was the first crocheted thing I made in a long time.  Here they are together.

He's a little squished from years of being slept on, but he's fresh from the laundry and still quite cute, if I may say so myself.

It is so cute!
Did you use a pattern?
Although I do already have way too many stuffed penguins...I'd love to make one!
I want to know what a purple one would look like...

Thanks for the replies!  I'm glad Craftster loves penguins too.

I didn't use a pattern, Bellz, I just kinda free-styled it.  I started with a flat circle  and increased/decreased while crocheting in a spiral for the body.  I made an open bottomed ball for the head, stuffed them, and sewed both together. I started the wings at shoulder end, open so that I could fit some stuffing in, and again crocheted in a spiral, decreasing to the tip of the wing.  The beak was done in kinda the same way.  For the feet, I made a chain and crocheted around both sides of it, increasing at the ends sometimes, and folded it so the ends matched, then sewed it together.

I think you should try one in purple!  If you do, post a link so I can find it!

Just perfect. I totally need a blue penguin for my dd.  She loves the Backyardigans and that would make a great Pablo.

I would love to do a swap!
