I was thinking of making the cowboy hat (I forget the name of the pattern).  It calls for holding two strands of yarn together for the entire thing.  Think I could use one strand of regular and one strand of fancy yarn?

I bought several kinds of fancy yarn when I first started crocheting, before I realized they are practically impossible to work with. lol

EDIT:  I gave up on this pattern.  I couldn't do it with fancy yarn or regular.  I posted a "help!!" message on the questions board.  Thanks for the advice though!  I do think the two different yarns together would have worked, if I could have understood the pattern.  In case someone else wants to try it.

I don't have the book with me; what's the yarn they suggest?

I'd say use a stiffer yarn (like Caron Perfect Match or Red Heart Super Saver) and make two swatches: one with 2 strands of acrylic and one strand of novelty and another with one strand of each. Then you can see which gives the strength you require.

Novelty yarns are good for amigurumi.  Wink
