Did you use a pattern or just make it up as you went along?  It's pretty cute!

i dont understand how you felted the handle but kept the eyelash yarn fluffy... or does that just happen because the eyelash is synthetic?

is the body eyelash alone, or eyelash and the felted wool knitted together?

(in case you didn't guess, the concept of felting is foreign to me, but i really like the idea of strengthening a bag by felting it)

this pattern really is easier then it looks! I dug it up to share with you guys! The eyelash just stays fluffy, while the wool will felt for you! you can make it bigger, but i made the "clutch" version - Anyway - here is the pattern....

FELTED "FUNNY" MINI CLUTCH

90 yrds worsted wool
1 Skein Funny yarn ( like eyelash type)
Size 10 Needles

With Wool, CO 40 St
work in garter ( k all st ) for 7 rows
Next row - KNIT 13, BIND OFF 14, KNIT 13
Next row - KNIT 13, CAST ON 14, KNIT 13
Work in garter for 4 rows, wool only
Next row - Add funny yarn - work both strands tog. for 20 rows
Work 8 rows garter WOOL ONLY for bottom of bag
Add funny again and work for 20 rows
Work in garter for 4 rows, wool only
Next row, KNIT 13, BIND OFF 14, KNIT 13
Next row, KNIT 13, CAST ON 14, KNIT 13
work in garter for 7 rows
BIND OFF
Fold in half, sew side seams, weave in ends

FELTING -
Fill washer to lowest level with hot water
let washer agitate in its longest cycle ( dont let water run out, may have to repeat several times )
Check for desired size every 10 min
when bag is felted to your satisfaction, Press the water out of bag, and let it spin until the end of the spin cycle
Shape bag and let dry - ALL DONE!!!

(** I found when felting, next time i would use a garment bag, as it seemed a little rough and i had to re-sew some of my seams... this was my 1st felting project and was fun & easy( once i figured out the tricky cast on for the bag handles...) :-) Have fun making this one & show us all pics when you do!! ~ Sammy

hey thanks for the pattern!  I was wondering about the circulars too...what size and length would you suggest using?  And you'd probably have to have some sort of mitered bottom, right?

fabulous job though!

No idea about circulars?? if you try it on them, let me know the new way to do the pattern!!

PS - if you want to make a larger version of the bag, the pattern says you need 180 yrd of wool and 2 balls of "funnu" yarn = The only difference in the pattern is the part where you would use the 2 yarns tog. ( funny & Wool) you would k for 40 rows instead of 20 rows on both sides....I beleive this will make the bag a lot deeper...I also have a friend who made this bag and then attached a pretty button to one side and crocheted a little loop to hold the bag closed! So cute...

Super job on the hot pink one! These bags are really fun to take out just for a small lipstick or a bit of cash - they wont hold a ton, but they definatly make a statement! Let me see pics when you guys make more!  Glad you like the pattern!

I'm working on one right now, but I'm not sure how the part knit with both yarns is going to felt.  Does it shrink as much as wool alone does?  I've done 22 rows with both yarns, but I think I want to do some more to make sure the purse is deep enough for me.  I'd like it to be about 4- inches long below the button hole.  Has anyone else made this purse longer than the original pattern?

I haven't done one with a change in the pattern but my wool felted the same way with the eyelash as without.

I can't wait to see your finished one!!

I have seen the bag done to be however long you would like it to be deep - When you felt it, the eyelash will stay the same, thus creating that "furry" look while the rest of the wool gets felted - It is def. a fun first felting project!

I finished this about a month and a half ago but just downloaded all the pics off my cam. I used Cascade 220 in Cerise and Bernats Disco-Lash instead of a short boa yarn. The disco-lash is a pain to knit with but it looks AMAZING after.. it's eyelash yarn with little iridiscent bits.. too fun.

UNFELTED

FELTED

This was my first time felting, my first time knitting a buttonhole and my first time using a carrier yarn or any novelty yarn so it was a really great way to learn everything.
I'm making a much bigger one for my friends birthday with black Cascade 220 and black disco-lash (it has pink iridescent bits), and I'm going to line it with a zipper...
Thanks again for sharing the pattern!!

I'm climbing on the felted bandwagon as well -- thanks so much for the patterns and the inspiration!

I'm pretty bad at sewing seams, so I knit in the round, and then did a three needle bind-off for the first time.  It worked a treat!  I still have to put a quick lining in these, but they've already been claimed and I'll be making some more and playing around with the proportions.

I used blue Lion wool, and pink varigated Paton's Soya-wool, plus some Fun Fur I had in my stash.  I think the Soya shrunk just a bit mre lengthwise.

pre-felting:

finished purses:

Thanks again for the inspiration!
