i'm making my stepsister a baby blanket and my friend picked out this yarn but now i'm not so sure i like it for a baby girl. the colors are just a tad bit lighter in person, but what do you think? is it too boyish or does it work for a girl?

I think they look fine.
I'm actually quite partial to different colors than pink, purple, etc. for baby girls and vice versa for boys.  Smiley

Those colors are beautiful and I'd proudly use a blankie like it with either of my girls.  Smiley

thanks  Cheesy i thought it'd be okay because of those small bits of purple, but i wasn't sure if the blue took over.

I think those colors are great for a girl. The color difference between boys and girls isn't as definite s it used to be. I would put pink or purple in a boys blanket too. The colors are bright and cheerful. My son had a quilt made from all the colors of gingham that are available. It was his favorite blanket.

I think the colors are great and if you wanted the purple to stand out more you can try matching it with a solid and ad stripes to it.

One of the most frustrating things I've come across when making baby blankets is the colour issue!

From what I've determined, ANY colour combination is just perfect for a baby girl, however, pink, peach, and purple are NOT good for a boy.  Unless they are in a rainbow motif.  It makes me want to tear my hair out!

So, the good news for you is, it doesn't matter what colours you do, it'll be fine for the girl.  ^_^

The good news for me is that I've stopped listening to what "they" say about what is appropriate for each gender and make whatever colours up I want, or the parents want.

Happy crocheting!
