I know I just shared 2 new trees (I feel like a forum hog! I'm so sorry!) but I just had to share this one. I hope you don't mind. I've been working on it slowly for over a month and will be entering it into the 2009 Fire Mountain Beading Contest.

Here's what it's made of:
26 gauge brown copper wire
Around 110 pink and white flower-shaped swarovski crystals
translucent green "Ming Tree" seed beads- size 11
Rainbow crystal and rainbow pink "Ornela" czech seed beads- size 11

...then it's mounted on a 3 lb rock covered with sheet moss, which is mounted to a moss-covered wooden base. This base holds a glass dome that fits over it (see pictures below).

While this is a contest entry and I can't change it, I would still love to hear any critique you have of it so that I can continue to improve in future works.

Edit: This tree has been selected as a finalist in the Fire Mountain contest and is now in the mail on the way to Oregon to be judged in person. I'm really nervous about it making such a long trip! I know I did everything I can to make it stable, secure, and well-packed... but I guess I don't trust postal workers. Tongue

Here it is!

With the glass dome on and lots of glare:

oh Amy, it is truly spectacular!  What an amazing job you did with the cherry blossoms, and the base is beautiful.
Good luck to you in the FM contest - and if it is a voting thing, let me know so I can vote for you!

wow this is breathtakingly beautiful! I personally wouldn't change a thing, but if you'd like to go for some variation in the future, maybe a few tiny blossoms on the grass would work?

Anyway, good luck on the contest Smiley (although you definitely don't need it!)

That is quite lovely. Great job... it is so sparkly... I would love to see it in person. I bet is it great in the sun. I honestly have nothing to critique... it is truly a work of art!

Thanks to everyone! Smiley

beckashell, sent you a pm. I wish there were cherry blossom trees in my area!

digital misfit, unfortunately, there's no voting. I have to submit pictures by April 15th, then if they choose me as a finalist, I have to mail all 4 pounds of it all the way to Oregon where some people (I have no idea who) will judge it.

piaochong, I wonder what category a real bonsai would go in? I would like to grow one some day. I have studied so many bonsai books by now that I think I could keep from killing one Tongue

sunflowersmiles, thanks! Smiley

ninjanator, I did think about putting flowers on the "ground" but decided against it this time. The landscape is already so big that I was afraid it would overpower the tree if I did any more! I may try that in the future, though. Smiley

loulou54, I am single, but I'm not sure my boyfriend would approve of our marriage. I wish you were in Columbus, OH. I'm teaching a class on how to create wire trees in just over a week!

poyupop, omg you should see it in the sunshine. It SPARKLES and creates tiny little rainbows on the ground. I LOVE swarovskis! Can you believe I originally planned to do this tree with rose quartz? I'm glad I changed my mind.

WOW thats gorgeous! The whole tree and scenery is just beautiful.

If you dont mind me prying, how much thought do you put into the shape of your trees? Do you make the branches and then see what looks good, plan the general shape, or plan the whole thing and build it to look exactly like you want?
