As someone who performs regularly I hope ladies don’t mind my contributing a few tips for making pasties. The best material to use for the base of your pasties is called buckram
. It’s a stiff material used in making hats and you can find it at almost any fabric store. It provides a better base than something like felt because when you want to reuse your pasties, the wig/garment tape or liquid latex you use to apply your pasties comes off easier and it is more durable for long term use.
Another tip for making great pasties is to use fishing swivels
(see picture below) to attach your tassels. It makes twirling your tassels a whole lot easier. You can find them any place that sells fishing stuff. They are super cheap and they come in colors like black, silver, gold, brass, etc.
A few more things to think about: the bigger/heavier the tassel, the easier it is to twirl. (So ladies with larger breasts, typically use a larger tassel.) Also, just like women’s breasts, pasties are not one size fits all. Areola sizes vary in women and pasties should compliment this. Nothing looks goofier than a tiny lady with big ol pasties and vice versa. If everyone would be comfortable with this, I think we should mention some sort of sizing for pasties.
Anyway, hope this helps some of you. I am super excited for this swap!! If anyone has questions on making pasties, let me know. Happy Crafting!
