I just finished this troll for a friend. I wouldn't really consider it an amigurumi as it's 18 inches tall, and amis are supposed to be small with over-sized eyes, but I guess it fits better here than under the other project category. Smiley

This took me well over 20 hours to finish. The hair alone took me more than 6 hours. Here's how you start the hair:

Once I finished attaching all of the strands of yarn, I used a dog brush to make it wispy like pictured below.

Even though it took FOREVER to do, I think I'll use this technique on some of my future dolls. I really like how it turned out. I have a special request from my niece to make a troll doll for her, so I imagine I'll be making this again soon.

She's still an amigurumi! There's nothing saying they have to be small with oversized eyes. The word means knitted/crocheted stuffed doll, so she totally counts! Cheesy

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Excellent job and I didn't know that you could get that kind of texture/look from yarn by brushing it out--that's really neat!  Do you know if that would work in a similar fashion on embroidery floss or not?

I haven't seen the film but I have several of the McDonald's Happy Meal troll pencil toppers, including a pair of Princess Poppies.

Isn't most embroidery floss cotton? Or some kind of blend? I have no idea if this technique would work with the floss. I suggest you use a spare or leftover hank and try it! I've only tried it with acrylic yarn. I'm pretty sure it would work on wool. I'm not sure how it would work with cotton.

I haven't seen the movie yet. When my friend asked me to make Poppy, I had no idea what she was talking about! But she's fun to make and super adorable. I think we have the movie in our queue for Netflix, so maybe I'll see it soon Smiley
