I have to admit, I'm a little nervous about submitting this project but I'm doing it anyway.   This song and project have a little bit of a long back story but I'll do my best to keep it short.   Smiley

Last fall, I adopted a new born orphaned kitten on a whim.  He wasn't well and when I adopted him I knew that there was a very good chance that he wouldn't be okay.  Unfortunately he died shortly after I brought him home and living in the situation I'm in right now, I couldn't give him a proper burial or goodbye.  I decided to try to give him a sort of memorial of my own and I decided to incorporate a song that is very important to me, that being "Sweet Home Under White Clouds".

This is the memorial box I made.

The memorial box is just a wooden box in the shape of a book.  I went with an autumn theme because this was when Nivek died.  The image inside is him in skeletal form dancing around the tree of life.  Red is a color that resonates with me and also reminds me of the fall and the season before winter white blocks out all color so that's why the background is this color.

The song helped me remember why I'd adopted the kitten initally.  I really wanted to give him a good home and even in death, I wanted to make a place for him that was safe and protected.  After he died, I was struck by the line I painted inside the box.

I figured it was a little better than saying Rest in Peace because in this memorial, he could still be at home somewhere.

These images show a little more of Nivek's polymer self.  He's got a little day of the dead makeup to remind me that he's not unhappy or in pain anymore.  He also glows in the dark but sadly, I haven't discovered a way to capture that in picture form.

Here are the lyrics for anyone who hasn't heard of the song before.

Sweet Home Under White Clouds

Sweet home under white clouds
A picture on the wall, it says it all
I had a dream, long time ago, imaginary
Like water, I had no color, running free, eternal beauty
And heaven it was on earth, the promised land of milk and honey
And I see it now, the pain and loss and all is wasted

Sweet home under white white clouds

And we slept happily ever after

Sweet home under white white clouds
Home is where the heart is
(And we slept happily ever after)

I realize it doesn't exactly translate as well without the sound to go along with it.  If anyone was interested in finding it, this song is on Youtube but be forewarned: The sound quality is pretty poor because the video is old and the singers' voices are a little bit of an aquired taste.

Sorry for the long post but I hope you enjoyed it anyway! Grin

This is so sweet and wonderful. OMG Shocked did you ever do an excellent job. So beautiful of you to give him a home even knowing he may not be here long. It's always good to share love. Smiley

So beautiful and sad!

I adopted a kitten in the same situation but fortunately she could make it and now she is strong and healthy. By the way, I checked the song on youtube and is brilliant.

Thank you for having such a kind heart.  I know Nivek felt your love and was blessed by it.  This memorial is so sweet, thank you for sharing it.

That is a beautiful memorial to your kitten. I am very sorry for your loss. I know how very difficult it can be to lose a pet. I love this project.

Thank you all for the lovely comments!  It's very much appreciated!

It was difficult to lose my little one but this project proved to be pretty theraputic and it lets him continue to be a part of my life in a little way.  I'm glad that I got to share a little bit of time with him and that I got to share his story with you guys.   Smiley

(BTW, yoli_san, if you liked the song Sweet Home, it might enjoy the album it's on.  It's called If I Die, I Die and it's excellent.)

This is really cool. Not to mention way to pull a craft out of a Virgin Prunes Song. I am sorry about the sad part of this project but the end result is really amazing, very Tim Burton.

Thank you both!  I appreciate the compliments!

(I'm also tickled pink that someone else knows who the Virgin Prunes are.   Cheesy)

one of my friends rescues cats and i know another person online that rescues bats ... and both have had similar situations like that.  it's so sad but at least they had last good moments with you and these others that have a similar mission.

ETA: i meant to say i really like the art, too.  it's a great memorial and i like how it's still playful in the spirit of DdlM art.

If nothing else, this experience has taught me that I really have a passion for rescued animals.  Since this, I have become the kind of person who encourages people to get a rescue cat or dog.  All animals need a good home but I honestly believe that these animals really need to be near humans who can show them love.

I'm very grateful for all the lovely comments.  Thank you!

This is very sweet. It made me tear up a bit. The skeleton is really well done and I think the day of the dead makeup gives it the perfect touch.

Thank you!    Smiley

I'm actually really glad that I posted this.  It's been nice to share the story with people because it makes me happier to remember Nivek with so many other animal/cat lovers.

Wow, this is amazing. And so very beautiful. I love the box itself but the thought behind it is great. Very nice and something I will do with my own babies(my kitties are my babies) when they die. Smiley
