The song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1ED5n3rcFc
The inspiration: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=290479.0

I had heard it was a song about the results of an earthquake.  And I'd been thinking about joining the chunky house swap when the thoughts collided.  It's actually quite literal, the first verse is house 1 & 2, and the road between them.  House 3 is verse 2, the bridge is road 2, the last verse is the dream house and the flag. And the whole place is covered in birds.  The tree was more inspired by the magazines I was looking through to find some of the pieces for collage - I came across a trove of identical eyes.

The houses are cut from scraps of mat board.  The grass is tissue paper.  The ground is this fantastic super thick cardboard that came into my life as packing material.  Collage bits are from magazines, origami paper, colored paper from old fliers, wrapping paper.  The road and the tree are covered in recycled brown paper packing material (or in the case of the road - grey).  The tree roots are twist-ties, wrapped in paper.  The birds are a handcarved stamp made expressly for this project.

sketch and stamp.

close up of open door. this house is handmade paper (by me) the heart stamp is one I made in high school, one of which is in the door of the right house.

Yeah, so this was lots of fun to put together!  My first real challenge entry.   I can't wait to see other people's work!

Oh, and the final pictures were taken in front of a movie screen, with the sparkly white stuff on it, so that's why they look... odd. Cheesy

So fun!  I have never mastered paper crafts (I'm not precise enough) and am amazed by the work people do with this medium!

Yay, I have long loved this song and the whole album, and it's very cool to see a visual interpretation of it! Good job!

Does your household accumulate lots of dryer lint and empty toilet paper rolls? If you'll turn them into fire-starters for me, (stuff lots of lint inside the roll, fold edges, maybe add some candle wax), I'll happily send you something nice.
