I was doing a bit of research on the history of felt, and I came across this strange video on youtube. The video is a step by step of the traditional method for making felt- with a dance beat.

Love that video! Now I want to build a yurt!

I was wondering why they beat it too and the only thing I could figure is that maybe it's to beat out some of the VM but also to open the locks a bit...?

...they don't card the wool, so I imagine the beating makes up for that (e.g. getting the matts out, some dirt, spreading out fibers etc.)
