Hello! have been obsessivly wandering around this site since I found it a couple of weeks ago.  I am not even sure how I bumped into it, might have been through Swap-Bot, which I have been using rather obsessively for the past month or so also.

Anyway, I love the recycling, repurposing, reusing.  I have to get my camera behaving so I can take some pictures of what I have done.  I do have some things up on Flickr, where my name is also Franstuff and I have a blog on blogger, Franstuff1, that I am just starting to use.

I have re-upolstered my couch in denim.  It's a bit of a mess right now, as it's being used as a bed sorta...  It turned out really cool.  I did that several years ago.  I have always liked thrift stores, scraps ets.

I am a hoarder of all things vintage, and all things creative.  My soon-to-be ex-husband always had a problem with my "stuff" never mind he has at least as much 'stuff' as I do, he just thinks his stuff is important, and my stuff isn't.  There's still a bunch of his stuff in my basement.  Now that I am getting away from his influence, and branching out into actually doing things I like to do, and have run into this online community, and swap-bot, I realize there are TONS of people out there like me who want to find a good use for all of those toilet paper rolls, pop bottles and wallpaper sample books that are going to the landfill, or if people are conscientious, at least to the recyclers.

I am constantly amazed at how many people cant be bothered to recycle.  even when it's made easy, like only having to throw it all into one big can instead of washing and sorting it.  It was always a battle with my ex and my 18 year old son.  Now it is a battle with my elderly friend and roommate (who I am also a caregiver for).  I don't complain, she just finally started to feel guilty, seeing me outside, with gloves on, sorting through all of the garbage, looking for the recyclelables she had thrown away. Besides, it's a practicle thing, recycling is free, garbage costs.  If I had to pay to dump all of the recycleables it would cost me a fortune!!!

So while sorting all of this stuff to go to recycle, I am always saying, hmmmm  I could use that for something...  there must be something to do with all of those....  Gee why do people throw these away?  Drove my ex NUTS!!

I am 45 years old, or at least I will be on the 26th of this month, I live with my elderly friend, who I am a caregiver for, my 10 year old daughter, my 6 year old Pomeranian (the larger variety), and we are tolerated by 3 cats -- A beautiful Calico who showed up one day and decided she lived here, and 2 of her kittens, a pretty little black and white one, and a grey, salt & pepper, with bits of calico.  My son's kitten (not related) an orange tabby, comes over to visit from time to time.  He used to come over every week when my son was gone and he was too little to be alone.  He is a little terrorist, and caused more havoc here than all 4 of our animals do.  We still miss having him around, cause he's just like a little boy, and loves attention without catitude, which our cats all have, but we love them anyway...grin

We had been catless after my cat had died of cancer a couple of years ago, and our other cats had been the victims of probably some kind of critter a couple of years ago.  (these cats are mostly inside cats to avoid that -- it was my ex that didin't want the cats in the house) -- then Cali showed up, and changed that.  Now I can't imagine what it would be like NOT to have cats around here!  Now that I have seen all the creative ways to hide litter boxes I see people making, I will be able to take care of the only thing I don't like about them --their litter boxes.

By trade, I am a pharmacy technician.  I work about 25 hours a week, doing that, and 35 hours a week as a caregiver to my friend and roommate.  I am very lucky to have these two sources of income in this economy, and while goign through a divorce.

Things have been somewhat tight, (haven't they for almost everyone?) but they are getting better, and I feel so fortunate at how well they are working out. So many women leaving abusive relationships (and the verbally abusive ones are just as bad if not worse) have much less support and resources than I have managed to have.  One of the abusers tactics is to isolate us so we don't have enough support to leave.  I took me awhile to set up the kind of social network that gave me the confidence to make him leave.  It has been VERY hard, but it is getting better every day.

If there is anyone out there who wants to talk about abusive relationships, divorce, verbal abuse, or anything at all really, please PM me.  Don't despair if it  takes me a little while to answer you.  I get pretty busy sometimes and cant get to my favorite obsessions....  grin

I LOVE swapping, and the whole idea behind it.  Either swapping artwork, which gives me the impetus to create every day (something that was NOT encouraged or supported by my ex); and swapping things and supplies instead of buying them.  I just have to be careful I don't go overboard on the postage.

BTW...  I have a TON of old rock and roll albums I inherited, in great shape (not crafting grade -- though I have those too) if anyone wants to swap them for some kind of art supplies or crafting supplies.

I make jewelry...beadwork, wireworking, eclectic styles and more traditional; collage and assemblage,  scrapbooking, cardmaking, drawing - particularly pen & ink with permanant markers.  I love all kinds of fine point permanant markers, pens.  I have some calligraphy pens I want to try out, and I want to work with some watercolor washes and such with my pen and ink.  If you look on flickr, you can see the kind of stuff I am drawing right now.  I love all sorts of vintaga ephemera....photos, paper goods, little do-dads to use in assemblage and jewlery making, metal charms, plastic charms.  I am starting to appreciate kawaii stuff, but just a little so far, from people sending it to me as extras in swaps.  I am having a GREAT time.  I am into turning trash into treasure, making beads from paper and I want to try out making them from plastic bottles.

Well, I have to run off to my day job.  I am having a BLAST here!  BTW... if I leave a reply in a forum, is there any easy way to track where I have left messages?  I didn't see the bookmark option at first, and I don't know how to find where people may have posted in response to what I posted in the forum,  if I don't remember where I posted... does that make sense?Huh

Thanks!  Fran
