this is so awesome! I have a really good friend who LOVES scrabble  and whom this would also make a perfect gift for.

personally I'd line the bottom of the coasters with corkboard or craft foam so they're not slidey, but other than that I absolutely love your idea, especially with the tray. I'd serve tea in mismatched teacups on it.  Cheesy

I guess the photos don't show this detail and I didn't mention it but the coasters ARE lined with corkboard on the bottom.  Without it, I think you're right, they'd be too slippery.  The tea cups are a great idea, in fact you could paint ceramic cups with scrabble-like letters arranged in drink names too match or maybe even with names of household members so drinks do not get confused.  These are a couple of posts on here that showcase some pretty amazing art work done in this manner: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=284893.0 https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=286436.0

ah you were a step ahead of me. lol

scrabble cups now? what ideas will pop up next? Cheesy that's so awesome I'm half considering doing that instead of writing my paper. oops. I could even see gluing tiles on to cups and sealing them so they're water-safe. (hand-wash only of course) which would be a neat effect.

The coasters are great, but I really love the tray!
