It's a crummy picture (isn't blocking exciting?), but I wanted to post these pieces (sweater and booties, bonnet not pictured) that I completed back at Christmas time for my new baby niece. I'm quite proud because it's the most complicated project I've completed so far.  It's in an off-white cotton thread--something I've never used before, and I loved it! It works so smoothly without snags or excess bulk and doesn't take much investment for a pretty project.  The pattern is from a backcopy of a crochet mag that my grandmother gave me, based on the 'pineapple' type patterns I think--if anyone wants the pattern, let me know.

p.s. I found the gorgeous two-sided satin ribbon, vintage mother of pearl buttons and french silk finishing thread (for the edges) at http://www.buttonemporium.com/, they are fantastic.

very sweet.  if you changed the color of the beautiful ribbon, it could even work for a boy.

Update: My sister just sent me this pic of my baby niece "wearing" the set in December--she's outgrown the bonnet and booties already, but the 'sweater/dress' still fits generously.  I found the pattern book I used--it's the "Elegant Baby Layette" from the Jan/Feb issue of Quick & Easy Crochet magazine--but I'm not sure about publishing rights, so I'm hunting online for a freebie or similiar version. I'll post if I find it.

Thanks for all the nice comments!
