Oh, oh oh, this is sooo cute. Definitely the chunky plackets add the cuteness factor.

I love it. Seriously. Hood and everything. I think the hood is a great addition, especially for a little boy in a cold climate. So cute!

Hey there, I am in awe you manage to get anything done from reading your blog, so absolutely hats off to you. WRT the coat - super cute but in my humble opinion you are right about the red crossy over bits (sorry forgot the name!). If you wanna go really swish how about doing the same piping you did around the hood on those black crossy over things? As much as I love hoods and one can never be out of place, for a more military style I think little pointy collars and some black epaulets with that red cording would look most dashing!

that is so adorable i could die.
when i have 3 baby boys in the distant future they will ALL be wearing this coat.
(although then they will look like a cross between marching band and sith lords.)

I think this is adorable, even with the chunky plackets.  I can't wait to see the one without the hood.

I was thinking the same thing as koolkatstate. I think black plackets with the red cording would look fantastic.
BUT, it's a fantastically adorable coat just as it is. Great job.

Thanks again for all your feedback, it's greatly appreciated!

If you wanna go really swish how about doing the same piping you did around the hood on those black crossy over things?
I was thinking the same thing as koolkatstate. I think black plackets with the red cording would look fantastic.

That's exactly what I wanted to do!  However... I couldn't figure out how to get the cording around the edges of the placket easily.  The way I made them was to sew two layers together right sides in (leaving a gap) and then flip them out and close the gap.  This was the only way I tried (of about 15 different efforts) that made really sharp corners.  So... I couldn't figure how to get the cording to be perfectly situated inside the layers, plus I'd need to get the edges of the cording to match up / enclose...  I spent days trying to figure out how to do it before I gave up!   Tongue  Any ideas?
