I did these for the dec. birthday swap, and while they're not really the sort of thing I'd generally make for myself, I thought they came out pretty well:



This one began life as a Martha Stewart frame that had so much varnish on it that I couldn't tell if it was real wood or not.  Most of that got sanded off, and then the swirly heart & star designs are done in colored pencil, and finished with floor wax (a cool trick from the ATC technique thread...)



there are designs on both sides, as well as the front



this one is stamped with one of the recipient's favorite quotes: "life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away"



and this one is collaged with some vintage stamps.

great idea!  I love the one with the printing on it!  Have you ever seen Chris Roberts Antieau's work?  She does "fabric paintings" but also designs the frames she uses.  Kinda reminds me of yours. Smiley
