i surely was inspired but a lot of stuff for this one (french magazines, stuff made here)
i've made this recently, it's just requires silk paper and patience, i hope you'll find the idea interesting   Grin

it's about 70cm wide - just paper!

i don't know the exact name but this was a big japanese paper lantern you can buy in most shops for up to 7.
(mine costed 5 euros)

as i said, the rest is so simple : glue silk paper triangles (or different shapes) and that's it!
thanks for the comments by the way !!  Grin

Pretty!  Kudos on your taste as well as your patience!  I could see this working with lots of shapes - light green leaves, pink flower-petal shapes ...

this is beautiful! If I had it in my house I think I would stare at it allllll day!  soooo what about a fire hazard?  could it go up in a ball of flames? and how long did it take you to make it...is it on a wire frame?  nice job! really pretty

thanks again !!
i did stare it a lot after i made it  Roll Eyes
and i tried it in pink first, but i glued the petals in the wrong side of the lamp

oops !! Fire hazard  Undecided you're right !!!
i thought of it a bit and tried a wide japanese lamp - i looked for the english name  : "paper shade"
you can guess the original shape on the image above
the lamp is 27-31 inches wide + there's a low energy light bulb, so i keep my fingers crossed for it not to burn !!

Please if you feel inspired, post your own versions of this lamp i'd be happy !!!

LOL!  I don't think I would worry about a fire ball if you have a low energy bulb(those burn cool, most of the time) PLUS it looks like you glued the "feathers" to the paper japanese ball?  nope...no flame there! LOLOL your funny..I love the pink!

This is neat!

and i tried it in pink first, but i glued the petals in the wrong side of the lamp

You might be able to use the pink one still. I have several paper lanterns hung in my house that when I got, I had to put together myself.  If you are really careful about it, you might be able to extract the wire frame that holds the lantern open, and then flip it over so that the whole things hangs in the opposite direction making your petals hang correct.  Just a thought Smiley

I don't know how much of a fire hazzard it would be... I have a paper lantern as well and you're supposed to use a certain watage of bulb and it's suspended in the center...

The pink one you might be able to flip... because on mine I can take the center out.. when you get them they come flat... so you might be able to "fix" it so it goes the "right" way.

It looks like you used tissue paper as well for them... I"m not sure what silk paper is... but that's what it looks like to me.. at least on the pink one. I still think they are really cool  Grin

thanks again everybody, i'm really happy that you like it!!

And jellobird, let us see the result when you're done with your lantern Wink
coool !

ok and now is the time for confession : i cheated !!
i actually didn't glued the triangles one after the other... Roll Eyes
i made rows of triangles, which is easier and faster to glue
i folded like 10 strips of silktissue paper together, accordion-like, cut it, so the triangle shapes are not the same exact shape...
(wow, does that sentence mean anything ? it's clear to me but i hope it's clear to you too....)
a pic would explain better than me :

and : i cant flip the pink one cos the openings are of a different width so the metal holder won't fit the other way round... i'll stick to the flower blossoming version  Wink

If it were me, I would use a a LED bulb (have you guys seen those.... they look like a bulb but have about a hundred little led lights attached to it) It runs cool, uses less energy, and lasts longer. You can also get the bulbs in all colors!

I also made one like this, as a present for my sister. This picture is obviously not the finished lamp, my sister hasn't got around putting it up yet.

Not so pointy and I didn't have enough patience to put heaps of paper on, but it was my first go and I'm definately trying again!  Cheesy
