Hubby and I were on a road trip recently and listened to several episodes of YLNT.  Three of the episodes guest starred Jonathan Coulton and John Hodgman. http://youlooknicetoday.com/story/vsop-roundup Hodgman is pimping his new book More Information Than You Require, so each episode ended with this plug for it read by Scott Simpson:

Go buy a copy. Ostentatiously read it in front of your friends and co-workers. "What's that?" they'll ask. "Nothing. Nothing _you'd_ be interested in." Then show them the dog poop you have in your other hand. "This is probably something _you'd_ be interested in. You look more like a dog poop person to me."

While the episodes themselves were incredibly entertaining, this made me crack up every time - even when I knew it was coming.  So I made this:

Are those french knots on the border? I've been terrified of the things ever since I was a wee lad. My very first cross stitch project (a barn and at least one chicken if I'm not mistaken) had one and I could not get it to work.

That was one of my favorite bits from that series too. I like to imagine scottsimpson walking around with dog poop in his hand at all times for just such an occasion.

They are not french knots - I think the stitches just stand out against the backstitching around them. I can't get them to work, either. Sad The only french knots I've made were unintentional. Smiley

The combination of You Look Nice Today and http://yourmonkeycalled.com/ is making me think Scott Simpson may be the funniest man in America right now.  I mean, analyzing Jewel's poetry? Laughing at "65% strength?" Comedy gold.
