the shop on dunbar is a tad further up (more like 30th) but it's pretty good.  the place on 4th is tops though.  just a block or two west of vine as i recall...

The Homecraft store on 4th is across the street from Safeway.  You can take the #4 or #7 bus from downtown.  It's located approximately mid-block between Vine/Balsam.  It's about 1.5-2 km from the Burrard Bridge.

If you stay on the #7 bus it will take you up to Dunbar where you can find A Touch of Wool. They have good stuff.

Yeah, it's really nice. I couldn't spend a lot of time there but they had some beautiful hand dyed yarns and lots of great knitting books. It had a really nice layout, kind of like Touch of Wool has. AND it's right next to the quilt shop. This is bad news for my wallet.

that yarn store on west 10th, Urban Yarns, had an article in the Vancouver Sun yesterday December 7th. It talked about how knitting is the cool thing to do now and many more young people are doing that. But we already knew that, didn't we? Wink

Ok, I hope this hasn't been posted already. I recently received some wool, needles and a pattern for christmas. It was really cool wool called confetti superwash, good for socks. It makes a really cool pattern when knit(will post picture when know how to). It came in a bag from what I presume the store it was bought from. Knit and Stitch Shoppe, 2460 A Marine Drive, West Vancouver. I plan to go their and get more of that confetti wool once I am done my first pair of socks. I looked at it's website( http://www.knit-n0stitch.com/ ) and it had a virtual tour, and fromt hat it looks cool. LOTS of wool and stuff, heaven  Grin. Well hope this helps fellow vancouverite knitters.

I recommend Birkeland Brothers as well. They have amazing service & answer any silly question you may have (I have a lot of them). They have been around since the 1930's, so they're not part of the many who are cashing in on the new popularity of knitting. They also have a knitting group on Monday nights as well as lessons on other days/evenings.
