Okay so I swear it's not as gruesome as it sounds.

So I had this idea for a clothing line....I've only made one piece thus far, b ecause it's taking a lot out of me... I don't know why either... it's pretty straightforward...

It's called Victorian Corpse, because it's what I envision the outfits of people buried during Victorian times would look like today if we dug up their corpses.. creepy...

But basically I'm taking vintage slips. Altering them to be a base... then I'm taking victorian clothing, cutting them to pieces and arranging them...

They're supposed to look deconstructed, raw... unfinished to a degree, yet delicate and feminine... Crazy stitchery... with unfinished edges

a "there's beauty in the breakdown" sort of thing...

I thought it was unique.. until I saw gibbous... maybe that's another reason why this may be the only piece I make... I don't want people thinking I'm copying that line... I've had my idea in my head since before I joined craftster... and it was on craftster that I was introduced to gibbous... but just to be safe, I'll say that I was inspired by gibbous.

Here is my first piece. a dress (if you can't tell)

Sorry for the lack of pic overload, my camera batteries were on their last legs... then pooped completely.

EDIT:

Okay so I updated the pics (no longer as junkY), but I have a question...

So I want to do a really chiffon, lace, silk, sort of top, but what's in my mind is more polished looking than this dress... a little capelet or skirt or something. Is that okay?

I like it... It's a little short though. But it would look amazing with dark denim. I don't know if that's what you're going for... but I do think you can make it "yours" by accesorizing or adding a unique touch... I was thinking dying the fabric would be cute. But props. Its very cute.

There is no such thing as regret. There is only a lesson learned.

Lesson learned indeed.

I love this style. A few of us work in this what I call "scrappy style" - I wouldn't worry about being derivative, because your dress looks very different from gibbous, or any of the other scrappy work I've seen.   Smiley

I know, I got a bit scissor happy with the original slip. hahaha.
I was aiming to wear thick leggings (possibly tights) and boots with it... possibly...

I say go for it!   I think you can make it yours easily and I like the concept....even if it does sound creepy.  Smiley

I would definitely be interested in seeing more.

This is so pretty! I am really starting to like the "scrap dresses" (for lack of a better word.)...maybe I'll conjure one up during Christmas break.

But yes, it looks awesome! I really like the idea for the clothing line. You should still complete it, regardless of the gibbous apparel - make it your own!
