I was asked to make a bag with this leaf fabric. She pretty much left everything else to me, but asked that it have some sort of leaf cut out. I liked how the goldish vinyl popped against the black vinyl, so I used that for the bottom.

And I had some of this Amy Butler fabric hidden in the bottom of my stash. I love it and had completely forgotten I had it. I was pretty pleased that it looked nice with the oranges on the leaf fabric.

I thought about doing a maple leaf for the cutout, but I thought it might not fit well, so I ended up doing this.

I don't think I would have picked out the leaf fabric on my own, but I'm happy with how it came together. I think it's a good mix of what she wanted and my style. =)

That is fantastic! For a fabric that was not your first choice, you did a great job Smiley

I love how neatly you stitched around that leaf. What a great job you've done.
Your friend will be so pleased and Amy Butler fabric for the lining, I'd be showing everyone the inside of this bag!

That turned out really nice, love the leaf cutout.  I'm working up my nerve to try vinyl, thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks everyone! I really hope she likes it. =)

Sewjayded, using vinyl isn't too difficult. I've found that using a walking foot really helps with top-stitching. When I first started using it and tried to use my regular foot it just kind of stuck there (which was incredibly frustrating). Good luck!
