American Bald Eagle: The Symbol of America - Freedom

I had every intention of making a costume for work this year but when it came out this phenomenal I even impressed myself!  I decided I had to go trick or treating with my 4 year of neighbor, and out to a bar with a few friends that had a costume contest on the 31st.

Materials: About $50.00, Made of 2 types of fake fur, the brown fur is on a mesh base just worked great for feathers.  The white is another fake fur, used for the tail and hood.  Felt for the eyes.  The beak is molded out of two pieces of hard plastic (taken from the back of a 3 ring binder) and taped together.  And the legs and feet were a freak clearance find - some light yellow taffeta that looked like the scales that were meant to make bird legs.  The talons were made of black felt and sewed to the feet.

Time: About 15 hours with the help of my significant other, he fashioned the pattern for the beak and eyes.  I did all the sewing.

Exposure:  Work was great everyone loved the costume and most folks couldnt believe I made it.  Trick or treating with my 4 year old neighbor was fun but short lived.  The bar well I am not the bar going type and it wasnt the place to appreciate my costume either, some rank naked people were getting all the attention. I was chosen for the first 25 in the contest but didnt make it to the next 12. go figure its a bar.

Making my own Halloween costume and getting all the oohs and ahhs attentionPRICELESS!

I hope you enjoy as much as I did making and wearing it.

Here are the pics:

GREAT action shot Grin

That is a fabulous job.  Great legs!

(Hmm, I guess if you want to win a bar contest you would have to make it a "sexy bald eagle" a la the ridiculous glut of sexy nurse, witch, bee, devil, etc., etc., etc.)

It's not that I don't want to swap, it's that I often don't have time.  But feel free to ask (especially if it's one that's not too time consuming).
