Terrible vibes.  Embarrassed... it's different if you lived through it and remember that awful day Cry
It seems a shame to trivialize a true catastrophe like that....

Sorry, but I'm a downer on this one.
I'm with McJulie-O.  Since you indicated you are interested in how this will go over, you probably realize that some people will think you and your boyfriend are pretty tasteless.  It depends on the crowd, I guess.

i realize that some people are not going to like it but i would not comment on someones project and call them tasteless. thats quite rude. if you are offended by it thats your right to be but you don't have to say something.

When the thread was originally posted she asked for opinions. I don't think anyone was trying to be rude, but offer another insight.

Personally, making light of a tragedy is not to my taste. Sometimes though people are distanced by time, or personal knowledge.

Suppose if someone has done this with Kurt Cobain suicide likeness, or some student from Columbine murders, or the murdered family of Jennifer Hudson?

Guess my point is your idea is quite clever, but real people were killed. Not to mention the changes that occurred in our country.

First off, don't ask for opinions if what you really want is for people to kiss your butt, tell you you are awesome and stroke your ego.

But here's an idea, the two of you could dress up as the twin towers.. that would show just as much klass and respect.  Angry

I was a college freshman on that horrible day in November.  I am offended by this costume.  Mrs. Kennedy was only 33 and in the previous August had just delivered a child that died after 3 day sof life. When her husband was killed, she was left with two young children to raise.

I presume the costume's creator has never experienced a sudden death of someone who is their contemporary, let alone witness the brutal murder of that loved one.

Many people remember exactly where they were and the emotions that are associated with the JFK assassination (similar to our generation's 9/11).

I have lived long enough to have experienced both.  I was across the river in Newark watching the planes fly into the World Trade Center.  My dentist's 30 year old son perished that morning.

This derives pleasure in someone else's suffering.  Not cool.

From a craft standpoint, the splattered blood looks good...
I appreciate your unconventional sense of humor and I certainly have done stuff/said stuff that has offended others in the past...

But you should expect that not everyone will respond to this favorably... (after all, it is a shock-value kind of costume).

Many people remember exactly where they were and the emotions that are associated with the JFK assassination (similar to our generation's 9/11). It was a dark time in our country's history and it was something that some people have never fully recovered from.

I'm not suggesting that you change your costume, since it really is your creative liberty, but really any artist should be prepared to accept harsh criticism. Just remember that an emotionally loaded stimulus can provoke an emotional reaction.

Just my humble opinion  Grin

I read your title and thought you were going out as the band the Dead Kennedys; guess that's an Old Person reference now!

that's what i thought too.  i thought it was some kind of DK reference i wasn't getting until it dawned on me that it was literally Dead Kennedys.  LOVE IT.
