I just got the Big Ass Book Of Crafts and inside is a recipe for making homemade toothpaste. Has anyone tried it? My other question is it calls for mint or peppermint oil. Is this just for flavor? I would rather have something with a vanilla taste but I dont know where I could find something like this.

I'm not sure if the Peppermint is in there for anything other than taste, but you could use vanilla flavor oil intended for lip balm. Most soap suppliers carry flavor oils, and there is a brand for cooking that you could try too (LorAnn I think?)

i have the big ass book of crafts, and i just made this toothpaste a few days ago. it's great! the peppermint oil is just for taste...but you might not notice until you rinse. while you're brushing it doesn't taste so good bc of the baking soda, but when you rinse it out youll be amazed at how clean your teeth feel. and honestly, morning breath is history after using this. your mouth will feel super clean in the morning! i highly recommend it.
