I am officially 1/10 done with winding... I just made my first 3 balls of yarn! Well, I actually made 4, but then I wanted to test out the center pull method I used (http://birdsnestknits.typepad.com/birds_nest_knits/2006/02/how_to_wind_a_c.html) and I pulled the whole ball out because it was so fun Wink

They look a little wonky, but I think they'll work... I'm not pulling on them to test them out Grin

I should have them all wound by the end of the week. I pulled a bunch of yarn from a stash that is mostly donated yarns (I taught some 7th graders how to crochet a couple of years ago, and a couple of folks gave  us a bunch of yarn... which is now in my living room because I was moving my classroom and took it home for safe-keeping... and I need to bring it back!).

I'll post a teaser pic of the yarn I've wound once it's all done...

I think you mean the "Star Dishcloth", which is around #37 on the list. This is the link: http://hometown.aol.com/JSchlossma/stardc.html  Let me know if it doesn't work for you and I'll see if I still have it saved.

Bummer! Well, special offer for any folks in this swap... I'll e-mail it to you if send me a PM Wink

And, myklia, that yarn is chock full of rainbow-y goodness!

I have a craft day coming up on Saturday (I think) and I always like to have something to do when the evening gets long, but I'm not quite ready to head home. Ball winding will be just the ticket!

Oh yeah, on the ball winding, that tute goes a step further than I do and I'm definitely going to try it.  This won't help just for this swap, buy I spin yarn too and it will help me make tidier center pull balls (you don't want to see how I do it now Roll Eyes).  Not to mention yarn I have gotten from other people done in the standard yarn ball that is not center pull. Tongue  I won't be reworking all the ones I have done so far though.  Fabulous, thanks for the link craftADDchick.

No problem! I actually went through a couple of tutes before I decided that I understood that one the best. I was stuck on one bit, but then after I studied the pictures a bit better, I got it. They aren't the neatest looking balls of yarn on the block, but they'll do Wink

craftADDchick....I'd love the directions to  that star shaped dishcloth, question though, everyone I know who doesn't know anything about crochet which is just about everyone wouldn't use those as real dishcloths but maybe for room decor.....does anyone really use them as what they are intended for? I still think they are pretty.

I love that yarn!  How pretty.   I love using my dishcloths, they wash up great.
I found on the winding such a small amount, that if I use my first 2 fingers, and not the thumb, I get a smaller wind, so a smaller start to the ball.  I do not keep my thumb in the hole, just watch that I do not wind the tail in.
I have all mine wound, just waiting on who to send it to!
