My mom is a librarian at an elementary school and is super crafty. Our favorite memories involve making elaborate school projects, learning origami at the library together and heading up 2 major traveling drama teams. She's always been my crafty inspiration, teacher and muse.
Now that she's going back to college and about to graduate from Texas A&M (  Cheesy ) I'm the one staying up late "helping" with school projects.  Grin This time is was a school project for the elementary school.

The theme: Earth Day
The project: Decorate a trash can
The advance notice: 2 days
The twist: This is for a national competition between schools for a grant
What's at stake: $10,000
Judging: 1:00 today
Ruling: I don't know, I'm on pins and needles!
Total project time: 24 hours
Pics: !!!  Cheesy

In progress:

Things I like:

Unfortunately the desert and savanna wouldn't take clear pictures.  Cry There was a donkey in there.   Wink I hope you enjoy the trash can as much as I do.  Cheesy

I made everything by hand from various crafting supplies. I figured it would keep with the theme if I used supplies I had on hand. I actually challenged myself further by only using supplies I was actually using at the time when I found out about the contest. It wasn't for any added drama, I just didn't want to go get more supplies from the craft room!  Cheesy

I used:
scrap pack paper
sequins
fabric
string
shelf liner
blue spray paint for plastics
LOTS of hot glue

Injuries sustained: One burn. Oh yeah! One.  Wink

I ended up doing a bunch of sequined animals but my camera batteries were low so I only snapped essentials.  Roll Eyes

I didn't actually bead the coral. I just cut out the shape in paper, covered it in hot glue and rolled it in the beads. then I added a layer of hot glue to top to keep them from coming off.  Cheesy Shhh  Wink
