My good friend Ginger Minge had a last minute pageant to attend last night with a presentation theme of 'Carnivale.' She had a long-sleeved, high-necked panne velvet A-line that wasn't being used for anything so we decided to Mirandarize it...Carmen Miranda that is.  One week, 20 yards of netting, 8 feather boas and a whole lot of fake fruit later and I came up with this:

You can see the polka dot lining and matching shoe clips in this one

The back

The headdress was reconstructed from a wide-brimmed beach hat that I cut apart and embellished heavily.
The grapes on her shoulders were velcroed on so that she could take them off and throw them to the judges.

By the way...SHE WON! I saw the judges sheets and costumes got top marks across the board. OF course, Ginger is also insanely talented. We were all so proud.

We celebrated at an all night diner afterwards and everybody got to try on the crown.

What do you think?

You are a great friend, (she owes you!) Fantastic outfit-totally Miranda. Using boas for a trim is genius, and she REALLY pulled the whole thing off.

That's so cool, It only took a week to make that? I expected something that complicated would take much longer. Smooth work!
