Help! I am trying a pattern out of Lucinda Guy's crochet book.  I can't get Rowan yarn in my area, and mail order does not come to my neck of the woods. My problem is I can't get gauge.  I've tried two different yarns, both DK weight (substituting for Rowan pure wool DK).  I consistently fall between G (too many stitches) and H (not enough stitches).  What am I to do--I can't keep trying different yarns forever.

That is a frustrating problem.  I've had that happen, also.  Have you tried switching the brand of hook you're using or switching from plastic to wood or metal?  Sometimes that can work, too.  Also, is it something you could crochet in the slightly smaller size and then block to get the correct measurements?  Good luck.  Let us know what happens.
