So I cut up my husbands old converse t-shirt & I catually did a really good job making it into a 2T size shirt for my son, but I couldnt reuse the neckline in the original because it was all tattered. Now I am left with nothing to use. I tried just folding over and stitching the neckline, but it looks so plain and awful. I need help.
Does anyone have any suggestions? It just doesnt sit correctly across my sons collar bones, if you know what I mean.
Here is a picture (and pardon my dirt floor, we just got a new dog)

Do you have long scraps from the rest of the t-shirt that if you pull on the long sides it stretches??  Use a piece of sting laying on the neckline (since its round) to measure how big the neck is... then cut your strip 2/3's of that length & 2X times the width plus seam allowances that you want the final band to be!!!  Stitch the ends together to form a tube & fold in half....  mark your quarter marks on both the collar piece & the shirt....  Pin them right sides together together.  Proceed to stitch a stretch stick all the way around.  You will leave the skirt layer alone on the bottom but will pull the collar/neck piece to stretch to fit the t-shirt... just remember stretch collar only NOT t-shirt!  When you are all done flip the seam inside & again top stitch with a stretch stitch.
