I was home when the VP announcement was made ( I'm from Alaska) so I dressed up as Sarah Palin and went to be "campaigning" to the neighbors.

My costume included a red blouse, red skirt, glasses, Extratuffs (rubber boots ... the unofficial footwear of Alaska), and a rusty rifle.

It was a lot of fun and I got a lot of laughs. My mom and I took pictures and I created a Palin email account and emailed the picture to all my friends. A couple of  friends initially couldn't figure out how they had gotten on an conservative email list...

Good luck on you costume and have fun

i was considering finding a pig mask and painting "lipstick" on it (and carrying around a tube of lipstick).
along, of course, with the glasses, updo and skirt suit.
and perhaps a toy rifle and a "Palin-McCain 08" pin/patch/sign.

unfortunately, i'm taking my niece out trick or treating, and my sister didn't like the idea of her kid going around the block with someone dressed, what some people might consider, "offensively."
so i have to go back to the 40s era zombie idea.

on a day like today with no gas in the tank
my belly is kind of empty just like my faith

So glad I found this post. After a long telephone convo with mom where we did our best Palin impersonations, I decided it is the perfect Halloween costume idea. I have super long hair and have been planning to get it cut, so I think I'll get Palin style bangs! I ordered a red skirt suit from ebay, and I think I'll carry a bb gun. Have fun!

A friend of mine is going as Palin and I'm going as a polar bear - we're going to fight to the death all night and stuff.

I promised I'd help her do her hair, but I can barley put my own hair in a pony tail -- any suggestions?

Oh my! My mother looks a lot like her. Mom likes the compliments. I'll suggest this to her for a costume, since she's going crazy trying to think up a costume. Thanks. Good idea.

If you are looking for tips on how to do her hair check out the article in the NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/17/nyregion/17about.html?scp=2&sq=Palin%20hair&st=cse
they wrote about the wig designer for SNL who creates the wigs for Tina Fey.

i think all the suggestions made are great and have nothing to add, but had to post.  i was very recently a bridesmaid in my bf wedding.  she's a republican and from a conservative family.  i'm her "liberal" friend as she introduces me to everyone.   Smiley  anyway ALL night everyone kept telling me how i looked like Palin and how great of a thing that was.  i thought about going for her as halloween too.

I actually went to a halloween party last weekend as Sarah Palin.  People thought it was hilarious.  Unfortunately it was a last minute costume so I didn't have a rifle with me, though several people told me I should.

You definitely have the look!  Just throw a blazer on and you're good to go.
