I didn't really know whether to post this here or in the Needlework section but I think it fits here best.

First things first, this is not my own design.
The pattern was taken out of an Australian Quilting and Patchwork Magazine and was created by Natashia Curtin of Smee Designs. If you would like to see hers it is here.
It is a wall hanging, measuring approx 15x29 inches.
It was 'supposed' to be made with "oriental/japanese" fabrics but whenever I have something in mind that I want to make and can picture the fabrics I want can never find them Cheesy. So instead I chose bright rainbow colours and made them pop by using a black background. The border fabric is black and gold and is absolutely gorgeous but also very expensive Sad.
The butterflies were appliqued on using fusible webbing and then blanket stitched around the edges in gold embroidery floss which compliments the border fabric. The antennae were done using back stitch.
The flight paths were quilted with my sewing machine.
My mum had some black beads somewhere that shined a greenish colour that would have been perfect for their eyes but we could not find them anywhere, hence they are eyeless. I might go back later and do gold french knots for the eyes but I am not sure if they need them.

Anyway I think that explains the most of it. Feel free to ask if I missed anything.

And some close ups..

Thanks for looking.

Beautiful!  The bright colors really pop against the black background.  Great workmanship!

I think my cat is sending me subliminal messages...
I should save that, I might need it soon!

I much agree! I love the bright colors against the black background!
I really like the gold thread that you used as well! Adds a bit of shimmer to them!

This is gorgeous, and I also agree that the colors are nicer than the original ones. I also don't think it needs eyes. I would leave it just like this. Smiley Wonderful work!

I have to agree, I really like the colors that you chose for yours, much more than the original. The original, for using the fabrics she did, strikes me as bland. Yours is vibrant, fun and beautiful. You've been wisted and rocked.
