my friend invited me to an anything-but-clothes party where you have to make an outfit out of anything except clothing. most people do trash bags, cling wrap or caution tape, but I don't want to use anything plastic because I don't want to end up all sweaty and gross.

I was thinking of using one of my flags that I have hanging on my wall, and just sort of wrapping it around somehow. That'd be pretty easy and it would probably hold up for the night. I was also thinking about maybe using paper towels and clear packaging tape to make a dress that's breathable and cool, but I'm worried about tearing, spilling, cramping my dance style, etc. I have some perforated off brand paper towels, but I also have access to the un-perforated plain flat kind in the bathroom on my floor. not sure which would work better.

any other ideas? I don't want to really have to spend much money on this, but i do have a small budget if i get inspired or excited. the party's on friday and i have a test and two essays this week. I'd like to craft something creative, but I don't want to spend too much time or money on it.

I went to an abc party once. To combat trashbag stickyness, I wore a tanktop under my trashbag top. I also ironed together trashbags between a sandwich of wax paper to make them more durable and give them a different texture. Then I had an overskirt. My friend picked up this netting at the hardware store where she got caution tape. I cut out a half circle and made it into a cone shaped skirt. Very futuristic looking.

I'm in the middle, flanked by two other fashion majors.
And another to show the skirt better. I even made a necklace out of ironed trashbags. The back of the top laced up with white trashbag strips. The top was ironed except for the bust portion because the ironing made the plastic shrink up some and I figured I would need more room in the boob area.
The person standing next to me had a caution tape top, but it got uncomfortable for her. I was trying to go futuristic.

You can see in the background people in robes and bedsheets. the best were the robots. One was a guy dressed in armor made from beer boxes and another guy had a robot suit from cardboard boxes and bubble wrap. There were def girls there in very very little. I remember one girl in a skirt that was this shiny foil fringe stuff. I think it was a party decoration, you could see her whole butt, and I think she was wearing a coconut bra.

While looking through facebook I found the others.

Here is a super cute idea that is cheap and will keep you cool and movable for your party.

I saw this a long time ago and thought of it when I read your post. Threadbanger.com shows how to make a dress out of an old towel. It is meant for a beach/bathing suit cover up...but this would work perfect for your party. Then add what ever else to your costume to make it more ABC. Maybe throw in a scrubby ball and some flip flops made of out old yoga mats. LOL

cute outfit thesinginglama. Haha, believe it or not though, I don't have any trash bags. I just reuse plastic grocery bags as liners for my little trash cans. the towel dress is cute, but I only have two towels and I need both of them, so I'm not cutting them up...

I took my british flag down off the wall today to play around with and i got it to look really cute with a belt or ribbon around the waist. It looked sort of like a cocktail dress in a way. I could also wear the earrings I made out of british pennies to complete the look. Maybe I could make some sort of crown or tiara and go for a queen of england kind of thing (or one of her signature hats...) Any ideas on what I could use to make a crown or hat? Preferably something I can find in my dorm...

I'd like to do something crafty for the dress, like newspapers or paper towels, cause it'd be fun, but it's just not practical for a party, and I don't have much time. Oh well, at least this way I have a theme... and a comfy dress that isn't going to stick to me!
