Topic: Skirt & Belt into Scottie Messenger Bag!  (Read 1988 times)

I made this messenger bag from a corduroy skirt. I'm so proud of it, I could poo! I've only made drawstring backpacks and totebags before.

I'd been looking for a nice tan cord fabric and came up empty at all the local fabric stores. I was at the thrift store last week and saw these longer type corduroy skirts. They were brand new! I found the largest size and took that puppy home!
The bag looks a little wonky because of the diagonal skirt seams. I just used one solid piece for the flap/bottom/bag and seperate side pieces. I made a corduroy handle but wanted something adjustable. I looked all over for a nylon webbing. All I could find was black Sad I was going through my daughters winter things yesterday and find this belt that matches the lining exactly! It's not adjustable but, daughter likes it anyway. She wanted a "scottie dog" on the front. (She actually wanted a whole line of them.) I talked her into one big Scottie and she's happy.

I just got some of that same lining fabric at Hobby Lobby! It's nice to see that you've put it to good use...I love the bag!! Grin
