Details of swap:

It's a tough time of year to be a grad student!  The fall semester is gearing up, and were looking at another four months of teaching and grading papers; writing papers and grant proposals; and worrying about finishing that big thesis or dissertation!  In this swap, well be crafting to help provide some mutual support, that extra push to motivate us through the semester.

This as a low-stress swap:  1 medium and 2 small items .  The medium item and one of your small items should be crafted, but one small item can be purchased or thrifted if you and your partner agree.  Either way, since money is tight for all of us, we should rely as much as possible on our stashes, thrift, and other non-traditional sources of supplies!

According to Craftster, medium and small items are equivalent to the following:
MEDIUM  = 2 to 3 hours, $10-$30 (a set of notecards, a scarf, a simple bag)
SMALL  = less than 2 hours, less than $10 (earrings, a wallet, a bookmark)
These size guidelines are very subjective, so, as always, work with your partner to decide how much to send.  Be sure to agree on the amount of time, money, and effort you want to spend for this swap.

Below are some thoughts for grad-school related items.  As ideas are mentioned in this thread, Ill update the list.

tote bag for lugging books to the library
pencil case for getting organized
lunch bag for remembering to eat
insulated mitts for microwaving meals
fabric document duvet for non-ugly filing:  https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=212958.0
shrug or scarf for fending off air conditioning in libraries and classrooms
fingerless gloves for long days of typing in drafty apartments
coffee sleeve for supporting caffeine-induced productivity: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=194286.10
reusable tea bags or tea wallet for much-needed relaxation
beret to appear suitably academic
decorative items for the bleak white walls in our offices and library carrels
decorated Moleskine or other notebook
decorated day planner
relaxation aids:  nice bath stuff, pretty candles
craft relaxation:  a craft kit with materials and instructions for a new craft

Throughout the swap, you will be expected to:
* Keep in regular contact with your partner
* PM me and your partner when you send and when you receive.  If you are sending within your own country, you must have a DC# (delivery confirmation number).  Include the DC in your package sent PM to me and your partner.  If you are sending outside of your country and cannot get a tracking number, you must keep your receipt as proof of shipping.
* When you receive, post photographs in the gallery

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide for other details about participating in a swap.

Please note that you may not be able to participate in this swap if your swap profile includes:
* ANY negative feedback comments
* poor communication in past swaps
* sending late in past swaps

Also, note that I will begin entering feedback one week after the send-out date.  If you need feedback earlier, please contact me.

If you want to participate, please PM me (oneredboot) with your questionnaire rather than posting it here.  THANKS!

Sent in my questionnaire this morning! Quick question though - I thought on the interest thread it was suggested that send-outs would be later? I can make magic happen if they're definitely on 10/15, no worries. Smiley

Great!  There are already four of us!

Alli_Lucy, I love your q'nnaire.  Smiley

Daniethanas, you're totally right, I intended to have send-outs on Oct 30!  I've changed the date in the info above.

hardyswanton01, maybe we can catch you in Round 2, when you've made it into law school!  Good luck on your LSATs!

This semester I'm working on writing tons of grants, and this morning I just sent out a plea to the grad students in my dept to join a grant-editing circle so we cna mutually edit our essays....  I wrote out a whole email and right before clicking send realized that I had written it in craftster swap q'nnaire format:
Are you interested in weekly meetings? Y/N
Would you prefer an email list? Y/N
For which grants are you applying?

Haha, that is fantastic, Oneredboot.  I should start writing all of my emails in Craftster questionnaire style.

I'm so happy about this swap - I've been wanting to join one, but worried about the time issue.  One medium and two smalls is perfect for my crazy schedule!  It's also going to be fun to meet other grad student crafters (we do have a fairly unique lifestyle).  I'm glad that people are signing up!

Yay for extended send-outs! This actually works out really well... we're going to Tennessee in Oct. to visit my parents and my dad smokes... so now I won't have to worry about taking projects with me and worrying about how they smell when I get back (we don't smoke). Smiley

AND - it also means I get to make good use of the break I have between classes (Oct. 20 - 26) to craft for my partner!!!! Smiley What better way to make use of a break than to celebrate a fellow grad student!

Sarah likes to make stuff.

Hi guys!  I'm going to go into the system and add this swap to profiles soon, probably tomorrow--so don't worry if you don't have this listed in your profile yet!

What are you guys working on this Labor Day weekend?  I was on a role yesterday and sat at my desk all day in my PJs hammering out a grant proposal.  It's a pretty good first draft!  Today I'm rewarding myself with some knitting and sewing (I'm making a new pair of pants to take with me when I visit friends in Austin next weekend) and catching up with swap stuff...

Have a great day!
