I was thinking about this as I went hell-for-leather last night, gathering 12 metres of tulle for a petticoat, and caught myself using a craft knife to rip stitches. What other bad habits do we pick up?  Like bad driving habits - we're taught the correct way to do everything, but as soon as we can drive unsupervised, we start palming the wheel!

Here's what I've come up with so far:
- Using a stanley knife or craft knife to undo seams
- Biting through thread (I promise I only do this under extreme circumstances!)
- Using permanent markers or regular water-based textas to transfer markings onto fabric
- Starting 400 different projects and never finishing them
- Hoarding. Oh my gods.
- Leaving scissors/needles/crochet WIPs/bits of fabric in shared living areas
- Buying fabric, and not just stuff I like that may actually get used
- Taking on repair jobs for friends and family & taking far too long to actually get around to it
- Not tidying up after myself, and then having to work around the dead clock that's been sitting on my workbench for three months
- Not pinning patterns down before cutting - I weight them down with whatever shoes and books happen to be handy

There are probably many more, but I want to hear about YOUR bad habits too!

Crochet uses a hook. Pirates have hooks, and they are cool. So crochet is cool because of the hook.

I drop pins/needles, look for them and can't find them, forget about it, and later find them with my foot. Also biting or trying to tear thread and having way too many wips. I have a bag that is all ready to be stitched together, cut out with the notions in a ziplock bag...and it's sat for almost 10 years in my closet. Also the repair jobs thing! It is pretty much a joke in my family now for someone to ask me to fix something. Basically they have to give it to me, and sit next to me and make sure I complete it, or it will languish for weeks/months (years). There is a top I never fixed for my sister in law...2 pregnancies later I don't have to worry about it, it's never gonna fit her again!

Ironing...I either don't iron, or else I iron on the floor...bad, I know.  Also starting too many things at once, and never really finishing.  In that vein, not finishing hems.  I'll get three dresses done before one hem.

This is my biggest flaw, by far. I'll pull out fabrics to do a project "next" and get involved in other things instead or a rush job pops up, or I sign up for a swap...

I do repairs for others pretty quick, but my own stuff? forget it.

Not telling people "No" when they ask for something.  The worst is with my kids...  Also not cleaning up after myself, my DH has completely freaked out (rightfully) when I'm cutting patterns in my kitchen...  on the counter...  next to the (gas) stove...   with the little leftover bits floating around...  Shocked  I also have about 18 ufo's laying around and I started another project tonight.  (Which reminds me, I should probably go move my patterns before my house burns down...)

I haven't done that yet, but I have set up my machine on the coffee table so I could watch Sex & the City! I do all of my cutting on the floor though.

I was hand-sewing at the pub on Tuesday night, so I could give my friend back his jacket... Squinting in the half-light as I stitched down a zipper top with black thread!
