Ok, so I had seen candy wrapper purses online and at craft fairs and always liked them. And then somehow I found some websites that showed how to make them so I went decided to make mine using magazine pages instead of candy wrappers, so I went through a few magazine and ripped out all of the (mostly) black, white or gray pages and ta daa...made a wristlet.

After I cut out all of the pieces to the right size, I covered them with clear packing tape to make the bag water resistant and so that it would be sturdier and last longer. [More info about this on page 3]

Here are some of the websites that I found useful:

I love the way it looks in black and white.  How did you attach the zipper?

Ditto! The use of the black, white and grey color scheme makes it look very classy! Did you just glue the zipper in?

And thanks for the helpful links!

The zipper is sewn in. That was by far the most frustrating part, but once I got it started it was easy. You can see how to do it in the first link.

THats great!  But Im a little confused, did you put clear tape on each strip of magazine first, or did you do the whole magazine page in tape, then cut?

I cut the strips first, then put the clear tape on. I'm making another one right now out of comic strips, I can take pictures of how I do the tape if you'd like.

Could you please do that? I'm in the process of making a purse myself as well, but every time I try to cover the strips with tape everything gets either broken (the strips) or awfully wrinkled (the tape and/or the strips).
I'm thinking of using something like modge podge now...  Undecided

Gorgeous! I agree - the black/white/gray color scheme is super sophisticated looking. I have one of these in progress, except mine will be slightly larger, and it is all being done in blues and aquas and greens (courtesy of a stack of Caribbean and Florida travel mags that were given to me).

I love the tape idea! I wish I had thought of that before I started. I had seen a tutorial where the person mod-podged with good results, but I think the tape might work better. I'll remember that for my next one (all 5 of my daughters want one, so I have my work cut out {no pun intended}).

Anyway - fabulous job!

Here we go. First I have my strip cut.

The sticky part of the tape is facing up, so I lay the strips with the side I want to use down. I use my rotary cutter thing as my surface because it has guidelines which make it much easier to line the strips up with the tape.

So I line the tape up with the lines and take a strip and carefully line it up on the bottom and then gently lower it down, from bottom to top.

And then I continue this until I have a whole bunch on the tape and then I'll cut it off, this way I can do a lot at a time without having to stop and cut after each one.

If you don't get it perfectly lined up with the tape, that's ok because the edges are folded in anyway. Just cut off all the excess tape.

And that's it. It's tedious but I generally do it while watching tv at the commercials.

Thank you guys so much for all the great comments, I'm glad you all like it as much as I do. :-)

Wow! I don't usually like bags like this because I think they look tacky, but this is very classy! I think it's the color scheme and the shininess. And I admire you for being able to sew that zipper on. Great job!
