My friends B-Dog and Rami were having a party for Abraham Lincoln's birthday, so i made them a paper mache pinata. Knick is modeling it here:
I used regular white skool glue mixed with water (equal parts) for the paste.
I found it helped to keep extra near by. I covered a "good" ceramic bowl with foil and secured a balloon with duct tape.

Old free weekly newspapers were just the thing. After they were torn into thin strips, the construction process began.
It took a long time, 3 or so days with drying time.
Eventually the balloon popped on its own. It scared my dog. Madison had to comfort her.
The hat is just carboard covered with newspaper, then black craft paper.
So here's Knick again with the finished project:We filled the head with KitKats, messages, one bullet, Valentines' candy, and confetti prior to attaching the hat. The face is painted- one coat of Liquitex. I spent $12 on the whole thing, including paint brushes. There were enough treats for 30 people.

That's awsome- much better than cherry pie for Washington's b-day. And nice touch adding a bullet for one of the prizes!

Thanx! Do you know King Cake? The bullet was the king. the best part was that B-dog got it, so she got to be the king at her own party, which was fun for everybody. Her prize was getting to make us watch 1950's Hygene films while we partied down.

That is too funny! It looked so good that I would have a hard time smashing it!

I'm looking for love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can't-live-without-each-other love.

Kick ass! Never thought of an Abe Lincoln birthday bash. I like the crosses on his eyes, makes it all the more cartoonish. I dig it.

Bwahaha! I love crazy pinatas, and what a cool party idea. I'd pass this on to teachers I know but something tells me that having little kids smack a dead president's head around (albeit in pinata form) would raise some eyebrows to say the least. Still that's pretty cool!
