I'm super happy the new season of Project Runway has started!  Every Wednesday a group of my friends come over to watch PR.  We theme the food (and drinks) around whatever the episode theme is.  Anyways...that's off topic...

Bravo has started PR Online Challenges where you submit designs according to the challenge of that week's episode.  The Challenge for episode 1 was to create an outfit from "unconventional materials" (since they used grocery store items for the show).

Here's what I came up with:

It's made from:
1 thrift store lamp shade
2 paper chinese lanterns
silk cherry blossoms
raffia ribbon
(and glue)

Also made a matching purse and fan.

The fan was supposed to be a head ornament but I couldn't figure out a way to make it stay up on my head...

Here are some more pics:

(To see all the pics go to my web album http://picasaweb.google.com/dreamingdewlusions/ProjectRunwayOnlineChallenge).

Let me know what you think!! I had such a fun time coming up with the idea and watching it all come together :-D

Have fun watching PR tonight!

I like it, neat idea. I can almost hear the judges with this one crtisism though... the skirt *looks* like a lampshade. i think if you add some kind of waist band it would do the trick.

is the shade plastic or fabric? can you sit?

I'll be watching tonight too...

oh - and do you think the garbage bag girl or that "girlicious" guy should have been kicked off before the guy who made the "Amercian Psycho" outfit? Lol

yea i agree on the skirt.  While I was working on it I didn't really realize it but once I saw the photos I thought "gee, it looks just like a lampshade...a waistband would have helped..."  Tim probably would have brought that to my attention right away though haha!

The lamp shade is plastic so definitely no sitting!

And as for who should have been kicked off...I think all 3 will be off soon enough - don't particularly care in what order they go :-P  But I think the guy they kicked off (Jerry) was the most boring of the 3 so probably a good decision.

Thanks for the feedback Smiley

I like it.  The top looks mermaid-y, I think it's the shell-like bra part.  Great job!

This is sooo nice and creative!
I really like how you used the chopsticks for the purse!

Dear Craftster Friends,
Three years ago, I was much younger and dumber and I flaked on a few swaps. I am back and I promise to make it up to everyone I hurt. I had been flaked on a couple of times, and I know how cra**y it feels. I am really sorry.
