Sorry, this is sewing, but it's spinning related!

I've been having trouble lately keeping a two year old boy and a 10 month old puppy away from my spinning wheel (Fricke, non-folding.)  I opted for an "Out of Sight Out of Mind" project to remedy it.  I made a spinning wheel cozy from some upholstery fabric that a friend gave to me when I was heavy into making handbags.

I sort of followed the idea  of a basic tea cozy pattern and then eyeballed and changed it from there.  There is no lining, but I did manage to hem it.  I made it a little long so that I could tuck the ends up under the wheel's base.

Has anyone else done anything like this for their wheel?

i haven't done it, but I love the idea!

I may have to make one for the Ashford Traveller, just to keep the dust off it.

I have a carrying bag for my Sonata, but it only gets used when I have to cart it around a lot.  I mostly take it back and forth  to market

this is brilliant. My 2 year old usually does ok with no hands on the wheel, but the 10 moth old just can't resist the temptation. I may have to try this.

That's a great idea. You should make several of them, put them on Etsy. Smiley

Perfect!  I hope it does the trick for you.  I need one because at 6 & 8 they are still overpowered by the temptation to touch - pull - treadle!

I second the Etsy notion. I so covet one of these. Grin

Well, it's a good idea, and I could use the money, but the problem is, I eyeballed most of the project.  I could do this for the Fricke wheels, but without having some of the others in front of me, I don't know if I could do it.

I'm a trial and error chick, not very good with sewing numbers.  I'll probably leave these for others to work on.   Wink

So, anyone who is willing to take this idea and run with it, more power to you! Cool
