EDIT- DEVELOPMENTS!!Thanks to everyone for their kind words. Smiley I'm very happy to say that the outfit (and our band.. of course!) went down very well at the festival and there's a photo of me in it with Dom, the pianist, in fashion magazine i-D. It's a piece on girl bands... very fun! If you live in the UK take a quick peek when you pop into wh smiths or some other newsagents...!

This has been many firsts for me- My first time working with a pattern (for the bodice part, the rest was worked out), my first try working with hard-to sew synthetic fabrics, and the first dressmaking project I'm 100% happy with. I hope you all like it!

Background- My band are playing at the Underage Festival (UK) this August. It's a pretty big thing for me, and it's also our first festival out of our lineup this summer. Our single's coming out early August, and I wanted something REALLY SPECIAL to wear. SomethingI could guarantee no one else could have.

So I got to work. This is the product of 3 frustrating weeks on and off (i'm still learning) but im thrilled with the results.

Details- The dress was loosely based off the early 70's boutique style, mainly Biba. I drew the design first, and used a 70's shift dress pattern for the body. The collars, cuffs, sleeves, cape were worked out by me, and a little help from a friend when I got stuck here and there! The main dress fabric is a paisley print i got from my local shop, and the yellow details on the collar & cuffs (and the main part of the cape) Is 50's gold curtain material I bought for 8 in London. The cape is trimmed with silver fur which was a lot easier to sew on than I thought. This Marlene Dietrich cape is what my cape is based off- But I dint pay $6000 or whatever! Pictures! (by the way, I dont usually look so sad and non-make-upy, I have a face rash! Sad

The cape wings out nicely Smiley

A bit of both!

Hanging flat

The dress all on its tod!

The buttondetail on the cuffs

Thanks for staying with me... will be happy to answer any questions plus comments/criticism! LUV Popxxx

The fabrics and colors look really nice together. I like the button detailing on the cuffs. That looks like something from the coture runways Smiley.

Stop being so damned positive. Staring at the sun only blinds some one. By only looking at the positive, you miss an entire beautiful world of shadows and colors. Don't be overly negative, be realistic. The world is so much more complex and beautiful that way.
