I'm trying to make a mask for my boyfriend for his Halloween costume this year but every time I try it either doesn't work out, is too tight, or bunches up.

This is what I need it to end up looking like. My first thought was to just grab the fabric in the back or on top and sew it but it makes fold lines all over.

Sewing is not my craft and I'm really bad at trying to figure out how to make a pattern or how to go about this so any suggestions would be a huge, huge help.

What if you buy a pair of plus size tights or pantyhose, cut a tube around where the thigh is (usually the thickest part) and just sew or tie the top? You could paint the detail on, or sew on applique maybe.

Following Styx's suggestion and adding more to it- use a sharpie to make the details on it.  It's easier to control than paint, and will stretch with the nylon.

Those ones for sale just look like extended beanie hats made from lyrcra. There are heaps of free beanie patterns around maybe you could just extend one at the bottom
