I recently got married in Las Vegas.  It was the best fun and we had a blast while we were there.  As it was all pretty whirlwind, I bought my dress, shoes, make up - even underwear (!) in a morning and loved the white J crew sundress I chose.  It was simple, well fitting and was perfect for the heat and sun of Vegas.

I just knew I wouldn't wear again in the rain sodden north of England where I live - there really isn't the climate or the skintone to carry it off!  We're having a party in a few weeks now that we're back home, for our family and friends and I decided to refashion it in an attempt to turn it into a glamorous, stylish evening dress.  I'm completely unsure whether it's worked or not!  I love how it's turned out but I'm not sure if it's actually nice or if I just think it is!  I'm asking for honest feedback because I've totally lost perspective on it - I'm way too close to it and won't get to see any of my girl friends until next weekend which might be too late to go shopping if I decide I look like a dogs dinner instead of a stylish, glamourpuss!

here's my revamped version:

and here's the dress in it's original white form.

Please give me your honest opinion - don't hold back and try and protect my feelings - just think of it as saving me from social humiliation!

I've posted some more pics and details on my blog: http://jo2308.typepad.com/blissedoutknitting/2008/07/i-was-so-busy-i.html

I've had lots of requests to post a tutorial on how to make the flowers - I'm happy to oblige and sorry it's taken me to long to get it up and posted.  You can view the full tutorial here:http://jo2308.typepad.com/blissedoutknitting/2008/07/hand-made-flowe.html
Thank you all for such fantastic feedback - I'm looking forward to wearing my dress with pride on Saturday!

In all honesty, I think you rocked it!  It's hard to see if the fabric dyed nicely, but if it did then you have a pretty little dress there, Mrs!  If it were mine I'd do a different color sash/belt, but that's just because I'm not a big fan of red/black/white color combination for me and I'd feel like going a little less traditional with coral or teal or something.

You did a fantastic job.  It's very elegant. The refashioned dress is lovely and the red sash is a fantastic idea, but if it were me --too many flowers.  I'd remove all but 5 or 10 or take them off entirely.  But that's me.  Different strokes for different folks.

Congratulations on your wedding.  You were a lovely bride standing next to a handsome groom.  Mazel Tov!

i daresay i agree with ambimom.
a few too many flowers.

and if you can get a funky light pink ribbon, i think it would look cute!
[[or even a patterned one? like polka dots or something?]]

but that's just me.

it's an absolutely BEAUTIFUL dress though, i like it better black!
haha, and you look gorgeous in it!

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Cheesy haha oh wow. i was mildly apprehensive scrolling down - was imagining some not -fully dyed black with nasty gray splotches or something

seriously! my jaw dropped. it looks like you bought it in some tiny expensive boutique.

love it! totally hitting this rocks, and bookmarking for myself, by the way Wink
