Just finished my third dress. This time I went with a more fitted top and it was a pain! I did my first darts - took then out and tried again - and repeated this many many times over... The top was made from vintage (60's) fabric, which I love! The skirt, of the dress, is made of part vintage (60's) fabric and part retro looking fabric. I was inspired by a rainbow skirt that I saw: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=226380.msg2452232#msg2452232

I was planning on doing my own rainbow skirt in the future and had it in my head allowing me to modify and use the concept from the rainbow skirt on this dress. I started with 4 inch square pieces - did 2 rows of those, with each row being longer and gathered by hand. Then 2 rows of 5 inch squares, then 2 rows of 6 inch squares, with each row being longer then the row above - gathered by hand - and then sewn together. I had cut out 8 inch squares but the length was perfect before I got to them. The next time I do one of these I think I will do 4, 6, and 8 inch squares. More dramatic!

So, anyway, the top part of the dress took forever to make and the skirt was quick - I think 2 part days. Oh, dress has a 233 inch spin!

I'm also thinking that using the differential feed on your serger would gather that up nicely... (if you had a serger and if it had differential feed)

Very colourful and cute Smiley

That part was easy...3 hours to cut the squares - I cut 4 times as many squares as I needed, oops, and 6 to 8 hours total for sewing and gathering over a 2 day period.
