So i've been wanting to make a pinafore for AGESSSS except i never had the right fabric.. so i got this denim (its a really dark faded blue) that i got like.. three yards of, so i figured, if not anything, then why not denim?

at first i tried zipper closing the back, but i didnt really like the way it fit, so i thought.. hey why not a corset back? i was kind of scared cuz i've never done corset lacing on a top before, and wasnt sure whether, without shaping and boning and stuff, whether it'd fit right, but it worked like a charm! Cheesy

I was working on this dress at about 2 am friday night, and stupid me [and distracted me, talking to the bf on my cellphone], i sewed the top to the wrong side of the skirt. I'm not sure if I like it this way, or if i should switch it so the top part is the same color [the darker color] as the skirt.
any suggestions?
and also, i'm not sure whether i should add straps or not. I kind of like it as is, but i get the feeling its not a REAL pinafore without the straps. ?!?!

any suggestions?
[sorry for the long ramble =d]

back... sorry for the shakieness.. i didnt want to use flash on a mirror picture, and the lighting wasnt really optimal =d

closer up of the corset lacing
yay grommets!

so once again. comments suggestions?
and yes, the raw hem is on the back of the outside because of my stupid mistake =__= if i decide to leave the skirt, then i'll redo the hem Smiley

I think you're right about the straps, that's what makes it a "pinafore" plus straps are cute!

I think it would also look better if you either fixed the one exposed seam (so it was inside) or added more exposed seams (so it looked like it was intentional).

I've been wanting a pinafore for a long time but don't have the right fabric for one!

I think straps would look nice on it, but it is lovely the way it is as well. I would probably pull out the seam ripper and then sew the right sides together though.

It looks really good without the straps but you could add them. I like it as is though...minus the seam..haha.

I have done that a few times...lol.

Nice work =P

I find that crafts are very good time wasters. If they aren't for you, then you are one of those rare individuals who know what you're doing!

I think the colors look nice that way, and it would be absolutely adorable if you redid the hem in the back.

i actually like it just like that. I think it looks more sophisticated without the straps, and I really like the different color top.
but that's just me.
Great job, btdubs Grin
