I've been playing with clay again. I intend to make a smaller one of these for my mum in law's birthday which is coming up soon.
made from air-drying clay, two card-making beads and acrylic paint plus one heck of a lot of time.
the veins on the leaves were achieved by pressing tomato leaves into the clay, and the shape of the leaves was made by cutting them out with some blunt scissors.

I find air drying clay really difficult to manipulate, so well done for this! Love the blending effect of the greens too.

keep it quite damp, but your hands fairly dry. I built this up in layers too.

The paint effect was done by starting with one colour, then stippling darker and darker shades onto it. Then I made the face lighter again as it had bended in a bit too much, but then the eyes didn't look right so s/he got eyeliner in the darkest green. I didn't use a basecoat so the first shade of green I used is really matte, but everything on top is glossy and it really adds something up close.

This is the awesomest thing I've ever seen made out of air drying clay! I love the idea of blending the greens as you explained above, too. Good work!

Wow! This is sooooo pretty. It really reminds me of something you'd see in a Disney film like Pocahontas or the new Fantasia. Love it!  Cheesy
