Has anyone here gotten into making journal quilts? Lots of web references can be found if you google this subject. I was thinking maybe of holding a swap at the end of summer that would reflect each  maker's summer experiences, lots of good things pulled from visual journals put together to make an art quilt.

each person would make one 8"x12" journal quilt, and swap with one partner.

the quilt would contain 3 layers, top, batting, back

can be bound with bias edge, or any creative bindging technique, but must have bound edges

must be hand or machine quilted in some manner

should be crafted with a 2" hanging sleve on back, and be labeled with maker's info.

These are the usual guidelines for journal quilt swaps. Everything else would be up to the creator.

Thanks for posting the links.  This is something I'm potentially interested in.  In January, I posted an art quilt quiltalong on the craftalong board.  I haven't taken the time to make anything, though, so this may be a good motivator for me.

The only problem with doing this is that I think I would have a very hard time trading.  I'm currently trading ATCs, and trading some of those is tough so I can't imagine trading something as big as 8 x 12 (which ISN'T big, I know, but it's still bigger than an ATC!).

And, I'm afraid I would need several weeks to complete mine.  What time frames are you considering?

I was actually thinking 4 to 6 weeks for something like this.
